GURUGRAM: Work on upgrading the Badshapur-Sohna Road is all set to start soon as NHAI has awarded the contract for the project to two agencies — Oriental Structural Engineers Pvt Ltd and HG Infrastructure.

Ashok Sharma, the project director of NHAI in Gurugram said, “We are waiting for the final approval from NHAI to begin work.” However, sources in the department said that work on the 21km stretch will begin by December.

Divided in two phases, Oriental Structural Engineers Pvt Ltd will be responsible for the stretch starting from Rajiv Chowk till Badshapur, while HG Infrastructure will carry out the work between Badshahpur to Sohna

In phase one, NHAI plans to expand the existing road near Islampur village from three lanes to six lanes. “An underpass and a 5km flyover has been planned at Subhash chowk. The flyover will start from Subhash Chowk and go till the Iskcon temple in Badshapur,” said a senior NHAI official. According to the officials, work on the 8.94km stretch will cost Rs 707 crore and will be completed within 30 days.

The second phase will have elevated roads in Bhondsi, Ghamroj, Alipur and near GD Goenka University. NHAI is planning to make a 24-lane toll plaza near Country Inn in Ghamroj. “The toll plaza will be divided in two parts, one on the Badshapur to Sohna side and other on the Sohna to Badshapur carriageway,” an official said. Work on this 12.71km stretch will cost Rs 606 crore.

“The land required for this project has already been acquired. Contracts have also been given. Work would begin as soon as we get the approval. Work on both the stretches will be carried out simultaneously,” an official added.
